Removing Clutter From a Home is as Easy as Following Some Simple Tips

It’s natural in life to accumulate more things as you go on. We tend to think of the uses of something and not always follow through on those uses. Decluttering a home is the method of removing excessive items to try and provide a crisper and cleaner look to your home. Decluttering can take place in essentially any room in the home. It may look different depending on the room and what items might be excessive and could be removed. The good thing about decluttering is that it doesn't necessarily mean throwing things out. You can give items to friends, family or charities. This means you’re not wasting items, but simply giving them a new home. This article is going to examine decluttering in different areas of the home and give some simple tips.

1 - Decluttering the Closet is a Great Place to STart

A person’s closet is often the first place you should start the decluttering process. It’s really easy to accumulate a number of clothing options over the years thinking that you’re just going to keep wearing them if the right outfit comes along. Start by separating your clothing into specific groups. Put all your jeans together, all your t-shirts together, etc. By doing this, it makes it easier to decide to give up some clothing items as you see them in large groups. From there, put items you want to donate in a box, and if something is damaged, be prepared to throw it out. A good rule of thumb is if you haven’t worn something in several months, it’s probably not going to make a return to your wardrobe.

2 - The Medicine Cabinet Is Likely Full of Old Items

People tend to save all their medications they get whether by prescription or over the counter. Start by taking everything out and looking at the expiration date on the medications. The same should be done for any skincare products or makeup that is also located in the medicine cabinet. Things that are outdated need to go! Also make sure to figure out the items you use the most. When you put things back, keep these as the most accessible items. Once you’ve gone through the medicine cabinet, then it’s time to check any other drawers or cabinets you have in the bathroom. Follow the same procedure. You’ll be shocked with how much you remove.

3 - Clean a Room Before You Declutter

This may seem obvious, but it can strike you in different ways. The idea is that decluttering should be removing items from your ideal state of the room. By cleaning, you start with a fresh slate. Besides, it’s hard when you see something all messy. Try decluttering a bedroom while the bed is all messed and unmade. It’s not going to happen.

4 - Organizers Can Declutter Without Item Removal

Sometimes there’s too many items even after you’ve gone through and been critical while decluttering. In these instances, it’s time to get creative and use some organizers. If you’re in the kitchen, look for in-drawer and under sink organizers. Those messy drawers can suddenly get organized and feel less cluttered simply from the organization. Closet organizers can be used both in bedrooms, or in entryway closets as well. Consider maximizing extra space like basements or garages into well organized shelved locations.

5 - Take Your Time!

It may be tempting to try and declutter your entire home in a single day. The problem with that is it often becomes an immense task. It’s much easier to declutter a little bit at a time, potentially every day. Some tasks like decluttering your closet might need larger timelines, but try doing a drawer of the kitchen each day as a start. Then the countertop. Then do the cabinets. This sort of build up can help build confidence and allow for real results to be seen as you declutter one room on your own timeline.
