Many Foods Can Help a Person Improve Their Personal Gut Health
A person’s gut health has a surprisingly large impact on their overall health. A person with a healthy cut will find that their immune system is stronger and their overall health is better. Many people actually feel less stressed as well. Once gut health breaks down however, many deal with diarrhea and other “embarrassing” conditions. What’s more, the body won’t properly absorb nutrients from food that is consumed. Thankfully, gut health can be cultivated. If you eat the right foods, then your gut will remain healthy with the right balance of good bacteria within it. Unsurprisingly, processed foods and alcohol are overall negatives when it comes to gut health. But which foods are good for your gut? This article will look at several foods which can ensure that your gut remains strong and healthy.
1 - Miso
This is a Japanese ingredient which has slowly become more popular within the United States. Miso is made from fermented soy and barley (or rice in some cases). Like many fermented items, good bacteria is the result and can really help with the gut. Miso is a great item when you’re looking to make soup, salad dressings or some dips. It can be used as a dairy substitute and is really useful to people who suffer from lactose intolerance.
2 - Yogurt
Yogurt is well known for good friendly bacteria and being full of probiotics. In fact, many companies advertise these facets of their yogurts very heavily. This is true and yogurt is usually pretty great. That being said, some yogurts are also packed full of sugar. In these cases, the benefits to your gut can be minimized or wiped out entirely. The ideal gut friendly yogurt is going to be full-fat and sugar free. Look for a sugar free greek yogurt for example.
3 - Kimchi
Here we have another delicious fermented item that makes the list. Many people love Kimchi and the intense flavor punch it provides. For those who may not be familiar with it, Kimchi is made of a mix of fermented vegetables. It’s often a side dish for almost anything with protein, but can also be added as a side with salads or as a topping on sandwiches or burgers. This may be the number one export from Korean cuisine.
4 - Almonds
Almonds are packed full of probiotics. This means that your gut bacteria can benefit and keep everything in balance. There’s also a high level of fatty acids. Many people choose a handful of almonds as a replacement for sugary snacks. Almonds can also be used to give a boost of protein to salads and are commonplace throughout many baked goods.
5 - Garlic
This is really good stuff. Garlic doesn’t really benefit good bacteria within the gut. Why is it so good for gut health then? It’s because it does a great job of eliminating “bad” bacteria that’s located in the gut, allowing the good bacteria more room to take over. Garlic is among people’s favorite seasonings and it can be used in so many savory dishes. Those who love garlic really tend to love it. Just make sure you’re not going to have an up close and personal conversation after you consume it.
6 - Sauerkraut
This is the third fermented dish that’s started from a foreign origin on this list. Again, it shows just how many fermented items can help with gut health. Sauerkraut is known as a German food, but there are variants located throughout Europe. Sauerkraut is fermented cabbage, but try to skip the versions which have been pickled in vinegar. Those do not provide the same kind of benefits. Many people can make sauerkraut at home too! It’s a cheap and tasty food.
